Update Part 2: Limited time left to migrate to Cubbit DS3! (October 27, 2023)
If you didn’t read our last update (Update 1 below, sent via email, Kickstarter & Indiegogo) you missed that Cubbit Hatch is moving to Cubbit DS3 - a faster, more robust storage service that marks the evolution of Cubbit! The current service that you are using (Hatch) will be shut down on November 24 (extended from the original date of November 10th), so it’s extremely important to move your data to the new DS3 service before that date.
How? Follow these simple steps:
- #1 Sign up to Cubbit DS3: if you haven't signed up yet, do so at this link with the same email as your Cubbit Hatch account! Every week we check for new sign ups and assign their full Cubbit Cell or Cubbit Cloud space.
- #2 Migrate your data to Cubbit DS3: if you haven’t already moved or re-uploaded your files on your own, the Cubbit migration tool is now available to help you upgrade from Cubbit Hatch to Cubbit DS3. You can see how it works and find the installation for the migration tool at this link!
⚠️Remember: you have until November 17 to do the migration. After that we’ll shut Cubbit Hatch down and you’ll not be able to access your Cubbit Hatch data anymore.
We are excited to have you all continue your journey with us to experience the geo-distributed simple storage service we built together!
Update Part 1: Full space available! (September 19th, 2023)
In our last update (sent via email, Kickstarter & Indiegogo) we announced that we have assigned anyone who has already signed up to Cubbit DS3 their entire Cubbit Cell and Cubbit Cloud space on the new platform at no extra cost. If you haven’t done it yet, sign up to Cubbit DS3 using the same email address as your Cubbit account. Every week we check for new sign ups and assign the full space. If you have any problems, please contact our support team and we’ll help you out.
Feel free to begin moving your storage from sync & share over to Cubbit DS3. In the (very) near future we will also provide a custom tool to migrate seamlessly. Stay tuned for that! Also, we are working on a new Cubbit desktop app that will leverage Cubbit DS3. We'll keep you posted about its availability moving forward.
Our goal is to help you complete your migration in the shortest time possible, because in the coming months we will deprecate the current desktop and web applications to let you fully embrace the Object Storage standard and take advantage of it. We expect to shut down the current desktop and web apps in November 2023, so the sooner you migrate your data, the better! This way, you’ll also see how fast the DS3 solution is!
Note: If you're a 4-account user, the space assigned to your guest will be reassigned to the owner of the account (the owner of the Cubbit Cell, so to speak). You can of course share access to your Cubbit DS3 space with other parties as you like. It's important, however, that you tell your invited guests to back up their stuff.
What is Cubbit DS3 & why the switch?
Cubbit DS3 is Cubbit, supercharged. It is a high-performance, ultra-secure, geo-distributed cloud object storage platform connecting all Cubbit nodes. Unlike traditional cloud storage, Cubbit's object storage does not utilize a hierarchical file system. Instead, it has a flat address space, where data is stored as objects. Everything is more secure, compliant, and cost-effective for the user.
Cubbit DS3 is S3 compatible: it offers you the flexibility to use a wide array of S3-compatible applications such as Veeam, Nakivo, Cyberduck, Cloudberry, Synology, QNAP, and Commvault, among many others.
Just to give you an idea, here is a list of things you can now do with Cubbit DS3:
- Automate fast, immutable, off-site backups with Veeam
- Transfer files like in a secure, private WeTransfer
- Add a secure, offsite backup to your NAS without paying for further licenses
- Sync and share your files Dropbox-like with Cyberduck
- Automate scripting and data migration with Rclone or AWS CLI
- Enable secure and high-performance data archiving
- Get the highest level of ransomware protection

A Final Note
During the migration (and afterwards), make sure to keep your Cubbit Cells online. Not only does this give you access to Cubbit DS3 at no extra cost, it also helps maintain the network that we are all a part of by providing maximum availability to all Swarm members to use the network and migrate files while we transition to a fully S3-compatible swarm.
Last But Not Least
As we take this significant step forward with Cubbit DS3, we want to take a moment to thank you again. Your early support has been invaluable. Cubbit DS3 has already been met with great enthusiasm both in Italy and Europe and we're excited for you to experience this new platform.
We're eager to hear your feedback and answer any questions you might have during this transition. Your insights not only help us refine Cubbit DS3, but also enrich our community as a whole.
P.S. Thank you for your continued support and for making this next phase of Cubbit possible. See you in the Swarm!
