Below are the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding Cubbit’s pricing and billing model.
How much does Cubbit DS3 cost?
Cubbit follows a straightforward pricing model, offering a fixed rate per TB per month with no hidden charges. There are no additional fees for egress, deletion, bucket replication, or API calls.
Pricing may vary depending on your specific requirements. To receive a tailored quote, please contact our sales team.
Can my storage capacity be capped to avoid overages?
By default, storage is not capped. However, if you have access to the Cubbit DS3 Composer Dashboard, you can configure usage alerts at custom thresholds to help monitor your usage.
Are there any egress costs?
No, Cubbit includes free egress as part of its flat-rate pricing model.
Are API requests charged separately?
No, API requests are included in the flat pricing.
Can I track the behaviour of the used capacity?
Yes, Cubbit includes tools to track storage capacity, bandwidth and consumption for each tenant, project and bucket used. Alert systems, notifications and tracking tools are included in the service. This will support you to granularly track the behaviour of your teams or your customers.
What does raw capacity mean, and why is it used for licensing?
Raw capacity is the total physical storage available across all drives (hard disks or SSDs) in your system, before applying redundancy, or data protection.
We use raw capacity as the basis for licensing DS3 Composer to keep pricing simple and predictable. You’re charged based on the total installed storage, regardless of how it’s configured or used.
That’s because Cubbit technology leverages on the power of the data fragmentation and distribution: the more data will be distributed, the less you will pay, while getting the higher level of SLA and resiliency in the market. With DS3 Composer, for each data, you can select the redundancy policy that you prefer.
What is usable capacity?
Usable capacity is the amount of storage actually available to store your data after applying redundancy and data protection through the Cubbit DS3 Composer settings. For each data, you can select the redundancy policy that you prefer.
For example, if your system has 160TB of raw capacity and you configure redundancy at 1.6×, it means that for every 1TB of data, 1.6TB of raw storage is used to protect it. In this case, your usable capacity would be 100TB — the rest is used to ensure data durability and fault tolerance.
In short, usable capacity is the real space available for your data, after accounting for protection overhead.
What happens when the Cubbit licence expires?
You will receive a notification prior to the licence expiry date. Please refer to your contract for details on renewal, grace periods, etc.
What happens if I use more capacity than I purchased?
If your usage exceeds your contracted capacity in a given month, overage charges may apply based on the highest storage level reached during that period.
Example: If you’ve purchased 200TB but your usage peaks at 215TB, you will be billed for an additional 15TB at the current list price for the entire month.
To avoid unexpected charges, we recommend reviewing your usage trends and adjusting your plan accordingly. Additional capacity can be added and will typically be aligned with your existing contract terms.
What happens if I use less capacity than I purchased?
Unused capacity does not carry over to future months.
Can I cancel a purchase before the end of the contract term?
Purchases are non-refundable and non-cancellable prior to the contract expiry.
Does enabling bucket versioning affect the storage capacity used?
Yes. When bucket versioning is enabled, every file update creates a new version. This increases your total storage usage.
Does enabling object lock impact my capacity used?
Yes. Enabling object lock prevents files from being modified or deleted during the defined retention period. This extended data retention may lead to higher storage usage.
What is the impact of storing small files (< 256 KB)?
As with all cloud storage providers, we apply a minimum billable object size of 256KB. Files smaller than 256KB will be billed as if they were 256KB.
Example: Storing a 128KB file will be charged as if it were a 256KB file.
